Jesus Is Just All Right With Me
Dawn Hill 1997-2007
I know there are those folks out there who think because I am a witch that I have some problem with or do not believe in what Christ taught. This is not true in the least! I think Jesus was really all right. That doesn't mean that I'm going to become a Christian, because that religion is not all right for me and for lots of other folks. If you find that it is the faith for you then I am not only happy for you but feel you are blessed to have found your path.
I mean let's face it-Jesus was a pretty cool dude! He walked around among all the "regular folk" talking about God and how to be a better person. Heck, his first miracle was to turn water into wine! How cool is that!?! He healed lepers, made the blind see and lived among those that most people either despised or feared. He loved mankind not for what they were but for what they could be. Christ had twelve followers, making the group a total of thirteen members, the perfect size for witches' coven, by some very odd coincidence. He loved his mom and was good to her and he really tried to make the world a nicer place to live in. Plus there is the fact that he may very well have been the first feminist-note the story of him rescuing Mary Magdalene from being stoned. In this story he reaffirms that all people were equal in God's eyes, from the most obvious never-do-well to the least obvious one.
Now my only problem with Christ, are some of those that purport to be his followers. There are folks out there who have decided I need to be saved from myself, a cult, the Devil, a combination of these factors, or some other such thing, in the HIS name. There are those that truly believe they are helping me out by preaching to or at me. They will actually site verses from the Bible to 'prove' what they believe. Of course, quoting Biblical verses is more of a game than anything else-especially to me. In this type of debate the first person says this, the second person says something else and then you have all these translations that you can use in different ways, " In Hebrew is really says that...", and so on.
It all comes down to who knows how to BS best. I can find a quote in the Bible to support any claim I care to make. Want to prove it is Ok to enslave people? See the Bible LEVITICUS 25:44-46. Does this mean it is Ok? NO! Of course not! This is just one example. There are hundreds of others. I really do not see the need to provide them all here. Just suffice it to say that I do not believe in what the church teaches the Bible to be about. To me it is a book of lessons to be used and interpreted. It is not the end-all say-all for humanity, and so, for someone to take quotes from it and provide me with their interpretation makes very little sense. It is just something I do not believe. If you do-GREAT! I am truly happy and do not judge you in any manner. I only ask that you respect my right to believe what I do and to be just as happy for me as I am for you.
It would seem that Christianity and most pagan philosophical ideas are on such different levels that it's impossible for them to mesh. Christ's big thing was that everyone should treat everyone well so as not to harm another. "Love one another as I have loved you." That means with respect for their rights even when you do not believe as they do. He may not have liked how Mary Magdalene spent her free time but he certainly would not allow others to harm or harass her for it either. If you love another as yourself then you do not lie, cheat, steal from, or kill them. Pretty simple stuff that anyone can relate to or understand-if they WANT to. Kind of like the law that many Pagan folks live by-Harm None. If you harm none you don't lie, cheat, steal or kill. Wow! Are we all alike or what!?! God, Goddess, The Divine, Spirit, Akasha or whatever name you choose to use are believed by both Christians and Witches to reside within each of us, and in all that is with no one individual being of greater value than the next. Because of this we are connected to each other, and the natural world as a whole. It is time to start looking at those things we share. Out real moral values and not how we come to them or what label we put on them.
